Transforming Housing Market Data into Public Insight

Client: Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research LISER & Service Information et Presse SIP

Case Study Overview

ISER (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research) conducts in-depth analyses of Luxembourg’s housing market- essential data for both the government and the public to understand evolving consumer needs, housing prices, and rental trends. In collaboration with SIP (Service Information et Presse), the goal was to repurpose this detailed quarterly data into interactive dashboards for public use, hosted on Luxembourg’s national Open Data Portal.

Business Outcome:

The resulting dashboard, now live on the Open Data Portal, offers clear and compelling housing insights accessible to the general public. Key achievements include:

  • Introduction of a housing index KPI, providing a more accurate view of price trends by excluding inflation effects.

  • A fully automated quarterly update process using Alteryx and Tableau.

  • Improved data literacy through user-friendly visualizations.

  • Increased visibility and adoption via social media sharing, supporting broader engagement with open data initiatives. See post on LinkedIn

Our Role:

As the data analytics lead, our role was to bridge the gap between data producers and end users. This involved:

  • Identifying meaningful insights for the general public.

  • Defining the underlying data structures required to support those insights.

  • Translating technical datasets into accessible, well-designed visual narratives.

The resulting dashboard, now live on the Open Data Portal, offers clear and compelling housing insights accessible to the general public.

Methods:

We used Alteryx to connect to the raw CSV data and create an automated, repeatable workflow. This process generated a clean, analysis-ready dataset tailored for visualization.

Tableau Desktop was then used to build the dashboard - optimized for both desktop and mobile use. We published the dashboard to Tableau Public - which allows to share the dashboard to any public website at no additional cost — and embedded the dashboard on the Luxembourg Open Data Portal, managed by SIP. Close collaboration with the client ensured rigorous data validation, maintaining trust and accuracy throughout the project.
